What Rules Am I Supposed to Follow For Which Court?
First and foremost every court has their own self governing rules. You have to read the Practice Directions for Each Court. You have to know where your court is the region in its in.
Here are some pointers I have written to help for different courts.

Oshawa Central East. does not put your case on caselines if it’s a short motion. Short motions are by zoom. You don’t need a factum or BOA.

Toronto: Short motions are virtual. Factums are required on long and short motions. You need to submit a Bill of Costs and draft Orders for each motion.

Newmarket:Trial coordinator lets you know of when you can get a court date.

Orangeville: Central West. Presumptive mode of hearing for motions are virtual for short motions. Silent on the issue of Factums. This means you can file one if you wish to help out on the issue of law.

Bottom line is that each each court changes their practice directions almost monthly so its really hard to follow. Even the most seasoned and experienced lawyer will find it very hard to navigate through the ebbs and flows of each different court. As a result of the pandemic there are so many different practice directions for each region.

We now have an online filing system where we can file documents online as opposed to at the Court house. Its called OneKey.

I think the new rules and practice directions as a result of the pandemic have made it far more difficult to self represent. In my view, the Courts will entertain Self Reps up to a certain limit and then will recommend that a lawyer is retained.
